The most common reasons for declining artworks

Journal Entry: Sun May 8, 2011, 6:16 AM
Hi there, all you friends and strangers.

We wish all the new artists welcome to our group and we hope that all of you, our dear members, are feeling comfortable in #AllWomen. Hopefully this blog entry answers to the most frequently asked question, "Why was my submission declined?". If it doesn't, feel free to ask for a more specific explanation.

Here are the most common reasons.

:bulletblue: Submission disagrees with the deviantART copyright policy. Please, read it, if you haven't already. [link]

:bulletblue: It's a spontaneous snapshot taken just for fun lacking artistic values.

:bulletblue: Picture is a sketch or can't be otherwise considered as a finished artwork.

:bulletblue: You suggested someone else's art, not your own creation.

:bulletblue: Picture was sent to a wrong folder.
- Full Body means a full body from head to toes. Otherwise it's a portrait.
- Artisan Crafts, Clothing and Costumes folder is for sculptures and photos of a model or a mannequin wearing costumes or jewellery you made. Cosplay shots and Body Art belong to this folder too.

:bulletblue: Submission contains only a small part of a woman body or a face. Like an eye or lips, breasts or buttocks, hands or feet.

:bulletblue: Picture doesn't contain a woman figure at all or a woman is only in a minor role in it.

:bulletblue: It's a picture of a child, not an adult woman.

:bulletblue: It's a picture of a male and female couple.

:bulletblue: Artwork doesn't match with our opinion about a good taste, suitable quality or originality.

:bulletred: Our decisions are NEVER based on our opinions about the artists themselves. So, if your submission gets declined, please don't take it personal.
I wish your life is treating you gently. :icondoublehugplz:

What if a girl thinks the other girl is a man just because she is narrow minded and cannot conceive a liberated woman?
Is it acceptable?

That page, where you provided a link, looks okay to accept to our group. If it, for some reason, gets declined by other admins, please let me know and we'll sort it out. :)

Hi, Lemmy,
yes it got declined this morning.
I think it's because they thought the girl in a cape was actually a boy.
(if you read the comment the readers figured out the joke already)

I'll send you a request to add that artwork to our gallery. Sorry for all the trouble this issue caused.

thank you very much,
I wasn't sure if the problem was with the drawing itself or its content :D

Nothing wrong with the quality. Not at all. :)

Hi deviant masters!

I got my last submission declined but I don't really see why, cause I've submited a few other times and I don't think there's any major difference between this and my other drawings (not that they're the finest in the world).

So, I would like to have your opinion about it. :)

Hi, Pedro.
Unfortunately this artwork didn't reach our quality standards. My opinion is that you should pay more attention to composition, shading and how to finish the details to match with each others (sharpness and how strong the outlines are). Proportions are perfectly in balance and you chose a good reference. You have eye for drawing portraits. More practise and experience is what you need right now. :)

Hi Lemmy. In that case, thank you very much for your opinion. I will definitely take it into account for the next drawing. :)
